Little Red Riding Hood - $6
Little Red Riding Hood is a very old folk tale, and was available in many forms in the 1800s. The text for this version was taken from Our Favourite Fairy Tales, published circa 1900, and so is out of copyright. From the illustrations provided, I chose a few that did not scream of late nineteenth century illustration. Bound in the same manner as chapbooks of the time, with cotton string. 12 pages, not including cover. Approx. 4.5 x 3.5"

The House That Jack Built - $8
This version of a very popular story in the 1800s, was published in 1821. One page from the original was missing. I was able to reproduce the text, but not the woodcuts, as shown in the one of the pictures. Hand bound. 16 pages, not including cover. Approx. 3.5 x 2"

Christmas Stories - $10
This is an excerpt from a book I have that was published in 1863. It contains a poem and a heavily religious and pious story, both Christmas themed. In order to make the original book affordable to reproduce, I have chosen to divide it into sections that will be available as pamphlets such as this, in a style that was available and popular in the nineteenth century. As more pamphlets are produced, I will mark them all as part of the larger work. Hand-bound. 12 pages, not including cover. Approx. 6 x 04.5"

Wright's Pictorial Family Almanac (1861) - $15
Includes wise sayings, riddles, little literary gems like "A Word to Husbands" and "A Recipe for a Wife," music and words to "Serenade to Ida," and some comical woodcuts and descriptions. Heavy advertising of Wright's Indian Vegetable Pills. Please note that one of the sheets was creased in the original publication, and I can't unfold it without damaging the book. Therefore, I scanned it with the fold, which impacts 4 pages, but not to the extent that it will decrease enjoyment. Slightly smaller than the original to reduce cost. Handbound. Printed on 20lb computer paper, no cotton content. 24 pages, not including the cover.

Student and Schoolmate (April, 1863) - $17
This is a gem! It's hard to find these for sale or online in digital archives, yet they are perfect for older children to read at events in a perfectly period setting! Handbound in two folios, with the cover glued to the front and spine, per the original, this magazine has several stories and poems, a recitation piece - complete with instruction for gestures, a dialogue that could be performed, and rebuses at the end. 31 pages.
The original was faded, and there are maybe 3-4 spots that could be difficult for some to read. Two are pictured at right. In order to cut costs, as this is already an expensive piece, I printed this on 20lb computer paper, but can accommodate special printings on 24lb, 25% cotton paper for an additional $2. Please specify when you order. A note about the binding. The binding on the original is skimpy, I believe because the magazine was intended to be bound at the end of the year. Since reenactors are frozen in time, I plan on applying a sturdier stitched binding for all copies I sell. |
